This is a pretty rippin thread. Maybe we need a dedicated chainsaw section on the forum!

The 462 is spoiling myself already. Can’t see needing more that this.
You must be unaware.... the MS500i is finally on some shelves in the US.... I will snag one the day one hits the shelves of my local dealer. Want so bad.

My MS362CM is pretty great, the M-Tronic is a definite plus in my book, I can't wait to try fuel injection.

No, I know it’s out there. I’ve run one in the parking lot.

I have an 18" EGO battery chainsaw. Works great for around the yard.

I might just take you up on that once I get the 500 in my mitts...

It will likely be late spring I hear.

Dan
That’d be awesome man the 500 looks bad azz but that 362 would be a sweet upgrade from my 271. More hp same weight. I’m not sure I want a heavier saw :/ All I cut is the easy pickins that are easy to split and move so for me probably no need for the big saws. Keep me in mind. Corbet that 462 will rip!

362 is what I thought I'd originally buy. I'm sure it would have been enough for me and my arborist client called it the perfect saw honestly. That was before the 462 came out, maybe his opinion has changed? But yah, I should never need a another saw now.
oh yeah its awesome, you're gonna love it.

All of these new Stihls are making me envious! Used to have a Stihl (170 I think?) for bucking and limbing but it wondered out of my truck bed at a Home Depot. Our new place is pretty suburban here in Loveland so didn't end up replacing it.

I was at the Depot again to get a saw to clear out a tree that fell in my elderly neighbors yard. They had a 14" Ryobi electric on super sale which happened to share batteries with my weed trimmer so I figured what the heck. This thing has been sweet! I don't use it often, but cut a half cord of blue stain a year for our fireplace. So far so good, although I think the OEM Oregon chain they put on them at Ryobi is inferior to the actual Oregon replacement chains. It's no Stihl and won't last me a few decades, but is easy to throw in the back on wheeling trips in areas with lots of beetle kill. Should get me through until I need to get a "real" chainsaw for use on a bigger property.

I've got a Stihl MS362 to chop up the big stuff and an EGO battery powered saw for the small stuff. This is a great combo for my needs. The EGO works surprising well and is super light!

This is really making me want to open up my ms660 and get it back up to snuff. I'm intimidated though as I have never worked on a small engine.

There should be a lot of info online about tearing down that model. That thing is a hoss! What's the matter with yours?

It is a hotrod with a handle! It was running great back in Ohio in 2013. I emptied the fuel and I believe ran it dry. I dont remember for sure. It has sat for 7+ years. Who knows what the seals look like, if there is any build up on the carb. I'm sure it "stihl" has saw chips around the chain gear. It could be packed in there and starting to petrify! If I'm going to use it I want to make sure that it is tip top and not cook the cylinder just because I didn't go through it. Plus it will need adjusted for the altitude

I bet it would run with the turn of a few screws. But best to replace the gaskets/seals throw a plug and new filters at it.

FWIW--my 362CM can swing a bar easily as well as my 660 can, and for a LOT less weight. I'm a big believer in the M-Tronic, and that's why I will get an MS500i as soon as I can. 9000' makes these things much more important than at lower altitudes.

An Echo 490 w/20" bar found its way to our house today. Fired it up and broke it in on a 16" oak log. Nice saw. Not as nice as the Stihls I got to use in Germany, but well worth what I paid. Stock chain will soon be replaced. Not happy with that at all.

My Dad gave me his old Stihl 044 awhile back. I finally got around to servicing it this winter and it started right up, and runs amazing after sitting for probably 10 years. Must be 30 years old but all the needed parts were still available. I remember running it when I was a teenager.

I just picked up a MS261C-M. I was between the husqvarna 550xp and the stihl 261C-M, both are autotuning. I read somewhere the EU forced husky to license the autotune patent to stihl to prevent a monopoly. Anyway, went with the stihl since I can get one locally.

I was initially skeptical of the m-tronic system, but after using it I'd highly recommend an auto tuning saw.

I've heard the 500i is a good saw, I'd be interested to see how it stacks up against a 461C-M.

As an aside - does anyone know how they tune on the fly? do they have a knock sensor to figure out if they can advance timing/lean the mix or do they just monitor peak rpm to tune like you'd tune normally?
