So there is a Coleman thread on mud that I follow and post in.

My buddy from high school who is in to cast iron and Coleman and random cool stuff that I like too recently found a virgin 413e (1954-1961) stove

And a virgin 220J (1975 ish) two mantle lantern (floodlight) at the ARC.

We had sparked up the 413e at his house a week or two ago for the first time, as in the stove had never been lit...again a minimum of 60 years old...

He left them on my porch this morning as a gift..wow

I protested a bit to which his reply was:

Quote
If I was on a hike and I found a fiddle and Charlie Daniels was my buddy I wouldn’t keep that fiddle
End Quote
Lol

The service card in the lantern box again 1975ish says Denver Tent co is an authorized canvas repair vendor for Coleman.

They are still in business and man oh man do they make cool canvas tents since the 1800s!!

I like the Pyrex globe “made in the USA for Coleman”

Anyways time for pics any of you natives will remember the spare mantles from... Gart Brothers...lol

That’s just pure bad ass awesome. We have a lantern model 237 I think (old AF single mantle silver font) and a 413G (not so old) stove we use every single time we camp. They are so friggin awesome to use. That stuff he found is like a time capsule though. I’m not sure I could bring myself to use them. Also, I like your buddy.

That’s what I like about old stuff like this and cast iron and old fj40s Marco
It reminds me and allows me to go to a place when times weren’t so complicated and stuff was simpler and not so ideologically charged..

By the way you need to camp with my buddy Rusty - he is like you a lot.

I took him on the 40s only camp out a couple years back and he and I and Chase stayed up all night.

I think Mendocino and his kids were annoyed but it lol but it was a great night

Very cool stuff! Over the years it's always amazed me how many of these old Coleman campsets you'll see in garage sales, antique shops and metal scrap piles.

I've got an old 503?? single burner stove I used with my parents as a kid in the 70's and a red single mantle lantern. I'd love to get them back into service (pics coming 'cuz threads suck without pics) - stove no workie.

Who are the Coleman nerds here who have refurbed these things? I needs some parts and stuff.

I've bought a few bits and pieces from Mike at https://www.oldcolemanparts.com. He's just a guy with lots of stuff as near as I can tell, e.g. the Cruiserhead collector equivalent with a backyard (probably actually a garage) full of old Colemans.

For new parts the official outlet is https://www.ereplacementparts.com, although it seems Coleman has finally begun discontinuing parts in earnest for their old stoves and lanterns so don't expect a lot of joy there. I was able to score a brand new 425 tank from there last year, though, so never know.

I haven't got anything cherry like, just a bunch of user quality stuff. I have a pretty sweet 425C (which needed the tank) I found in a thrift store and a great 426D (monster 3-burner) that I got at a Mountain Miser gear swap long ago from a retiring river guide. I also have a 425F and 288A I bought new in 1994, which I suppose makes them now ancient, too.

I have used same sources that Dave suggests. The lanterns and stoves are really easy to take apart. he only part that seems to be kinda hard it the check valve in the tanks, I had to make a special tool for that. luckily they seem to do pretty ok and maybe don't need to be removed?

I've had all our stuff apart at least once to clean/rebuild/fix

Steve good To see you post...
Funny thing about me and my friend Rusty
We met in 8th grade...at Faith Christian Academy
He has gone his way and me mine.
30 years later we are still very close.
Opposite ends of the spectrum.
It doesn’t matter we are folks.
Folks that love each other and won’t let it go.
Masks not masks believers not believers
Pick it. It doesn’t matter. We know and respect.
We are human.
We are doing life .
Together.
We know each other we respect each other.
Wish we all could.

If it was only as simple as cast iron Coleman and cruisers amiright
Yes, Mike, you are absolutely correct. Respect!
Old friends remain old friends no matter the amount of time they are separated.

I have a small collection of Coleman lanterns, stoves and a few other odd bits and pieces. The pic below is a few I have in my office. My favorite is a 1956 lantern that runs like new.

I’ve done a little tinkering as well, and the mud thread helped grow my addiction. Before that thread I didn’t know there was anything but 425 stoves and 220 lanterns.

Through clever purchasing (eBay and a junk store), I have a red 200 single mantle lantern made in the month of my birth (12/64), and a 220 dual-mantle also dated 12/64.

The $10 finds: I just found a 222B (mini-lantern based on a Peak 1 style gas tank) with a case for $10 at Goodwill. I also recently found a 425 dual burner stove dated 5/67 that was just about immaculate at Goodwill for.... $10.

A hunting buddy of mine in Colorado Springs is a serious Coleman collector and restorer and has egged me on. I keep finding $10 Coleman deals at thrift stores and Goodwill, and he always ribs me about this. So, the other day, I got a clean 425 stove for $5 and left it (unannounced) on his doorstep as a gift. He finally figured out it was me. I told him it was Santa. Sharing the Coleman love!

Consolidating my Coleman photos into this thread: my addiction started sometime around 2020:
Stoves and lanterns I grew up on. All I knew was 425s until I became an adult.

Got my singles burning again last night. I seem to get on a kick every winter and want to get all my stuff out and running. One or two things usually act up. These two have been acting up since last summer when I was thinking of taking the 550 with me on a backpacking trip. I still have another lantern and stove that need a little work.
