Cameron Peak Fire in Colorado still burning furiously well into October amid strong wind conditions, & will likely become largest wildfire in modern state history later today. This follows exceptionally hot & dry conditions this summer/fall.

Mandatory evacuation from the Continental Divide all the way to the foothills immediately above Fort Collins. This map is nearly 100 miles from west to east.

Ran the maps this evening. FWIW the Pine Gulch that burned from 7/31/2020 to 9/24/2020 here in Mesa and Garfield County was officially 139,007 acres when it was called fully contained. So it will have only held the largest fire in Colorado history for a few weeks!

Just to put the size of today's run in perspective, you can see the difference between your upload and the most recent mapping. It is pretty mind blowing to see the distance it has covered (over 12 miles today).

We are in northwest Loveland and have a number of friends/family in the area of Masonville and Stout which were evacuated today. Fire is likely to hit Lory, and potentially impact Horsetooth Reservoir and surrounding structures.

It shows just how fast an evacuation order happens - and how much of the evacuation area can burn in just hours. I watched with my spotting scope from the roof as the fire broached what I believe is the ridge of Signal Mountain. It happened incredibly fast. Within minutes the area was obscured by rolling smoke and the fire moving down slope.

Lory State Park went on mandatory evacuations as of two hours ago (the area marked on your map as yellow), most homes in the area are being evacuated.

This is a real bummer. Our household needed to get air purifiers the smoke has been so bad all the way in Glendale Co. I cannot imagine what it would be so much closer to the fires.

New fire boundaries from overnight. Now is mapped at 164,259 acres.

Ran a map showing historic fires. I remember the High Park in 2012 and watching it from Lory State Park.

My wife's boss lives just SW of Horsetooth. They were evacuated yesterday. So sad to see this....especially with ZERO moisture and high winds in the forecast.

I couldn't even see the buildings when I drove through Steamboat last Thursday to go hunting. It was the worst I have ever seen for a fire affecting a mountain town. The smoke went all the way to Hayden, but was definitely the worst in Steamboat. Obviously, this is not from Cameron...just a comment on how bad it is all over the state right now.

Evacuation zone expanded dramatically in the last few hours. Tomorrow has potential to be a very bad day.

My house is about 3 miles from the evacuation area. Amazing that a few months ago we would never have considered this behavior from the fire, but now it seems very likely we see 34 impacted.

We are visiting friends in Frisco at the moment but our neighbors are sending us photos of the fire. Glow is bright - fire visible from our neighborhood.

That little spot fire just west of horsetooth mountain is no good.
I saw that, too. I wondered if that's real or an artifact of the IR imaging they do overnight but it persisted two days so it's a real hot spot. That's getting close to the antenna site up there, which has a few broadcast and two-way stations. On the up side the ones housed in the old Buckhorn Mt. Long Lines building should be OK, it was designed to survive a nuclear war after all.

This is so sad to see. The Land Cruiser Destination Club event was up there and I believe we wheeled in much of the area caught up in the fire. Really sad to see:cry:

They must be fighting hard to keep it west of Buckhorn Road. Makes total sense, if it jumps that things start to get even more tricky around Masonville and not long before it could get into west Ft. Collins and Loveland near the landfill. It looks like it's made to less than a mile from Bobcat Ridge Open Space. Holy cow.

This fire west of Longmont isn’t going to be good either...

We’re watching it grow from our house here in Erie. My sister will likely be evacuated within the next hour.

You guys notice that Gaia has a fire heatmap layer... looking at the boulder area fire now I can see that fire on Gaia but it's not yet on inciweb..
We're hearing folks on the plains are being told to evac? It looks like this one may have crossed hwy36 north of boulder already per the gaia map
