Welcome to a new thread! It’s a place to post YouTube links and books or articles that are worth sharing. Things that made you say hmmm. For those that love learning and mind-altering, unforgettable content, this thread is for you! There’s so much in our club brain-trust that I can’t wait to see! I plan to spend a lot of time reading in the coming months so show me what you got!

There may be cynicism and second rate sarcasm and dumb posts that you have to sift through. I can’t control that. I can’t control if someone just has to give you grief, here or in real life, about your “clearly deplorable” political ideals or something. Be mindful. Fortunately, a lot of the most awe inspiring content out there is pretty apolitical. Have fun!

I would suggest, for the viability of the thread, that we try and lean towards showcasing additional content (as opposed to protracted written commentaries) if/when you disagree with content you see here. NOTHING featured or written here (provided you don’t run afoul of the club bylaws) should be considered a statement of opinion, or as an endorsement of ANYTHING, by ANYONE, or by the Rising Sun Club. It’s a safe space! Lol

Now, to set the tone for the whole thread, who will make the first posts!?

Care to understand economics in one of the simplest and easy to understand explanations I have ever encountered? Read "How an Economy Grows and Why It Crashes" by Peter Schiff. This out one of the more informative deliveries that I have ever found for real economics. The bonus is that it is told in an easy to follow and enjoyable story that even a 5 year old could understand. This works well for my reading comprehension! It really is simple, but people try to make it complex. The short explanation of the book? People who produce more real goods than they consume prosper and people who consume more than they produce don't. Which one is the United States?

I’ll have to read that. Goods are one thing, but so is a knowledge bank of information. Making knowledge is powerful as wel and labor only goes so far.

A while back I started thinking fast and slow by Kahneman audiobook in the dentist chair. Not the right setting so I need to revisit that one.

Today's share: NY Times - "Why Soap Works"

I actually plan to read that in the next couple of weeks. Chase made that recommendation just a little bit ago to that book.

I read this book awhile back and it was just so cool I've been recommending it to everyone. It's about a tank commander Vasiliy Krysov in the Red Army during WW2 and the wild things he experienced. It's full of all sorts of stories about small battles on the Eastern front and some unbelievable acts of bravery and lucky get aways. Follows his career as a tank commander from the early days of the war when Russia was on the ropes to the final victory push into Berlin.

I really like Alton Brown. He put out a video a few days ago that explain hand washing too. Just not in nearly as much detail as the article you put up. Thanks for posting that up.

Not really a specific program on a specific topic, but I've been watching the show "Explained" on Netflix. Super well written in a nice, compact dosage. The episodes are about 15 minutes long and usually present both sides of the topic, though not necessarily overtly.

If you don’t follow Ben Krasnow on youtube, you’re not learning any science. In fact he has renamed his YouTube channel to Applied Science like this one or his home made astronaut ice cream, or his home made scanning electron microscope

Johnathan Ward interview on Joe Rogan. I haven't listened to it yet, but I bet it is a really good interview. I will listen to it later tonight and update.
