- Plan Formed-

Howdy Folks!

Late to post up but it's been on the calendar so I bet you've been wondering!!!!

This weekend I have big plans. My goal is to pre-run Jenny Creek, lay eyes on Kingston Peak, and Pre-Run Argentine Pass. All in one swoop... but... I plan to do this with a night of camping shoved in the middle. Site to be determined.... It will depend on where I get to and what looks "real nice".

WHO- This event is open to anybody who can make it. You do not need to be a member of Rising Sun to attend. Kids and dogs welcome, just make sure they are being watched and not in harms way. Leashes for dogs.

WHAT - Argentine Pass, Kingston Peak, Jenny Creek Trail Cleanup and inventory. We collaborate with the Boulder and Clear Creek Ranger districts to do general trail maintenance, post and cable repair, signage, campsite cleanup, illegal route management, and many other things. These are our adopt-a-trails that we have done a lot of work on to keep open and this is our opportunity to get out and do a quick baseline trip for future work days. We have a lot of ground to cover and will be moving quickly. Goals are to basically put boots on the ground and be able to communicate conditions back to appropriate people.

GET YOUR OHV PERMIT, This is a requirement for doing the Jenny Creek portion of this run since Jenny Creek is a trail. The money goes directly towards keeping trails like this open. Here is the thread on it: https://risingsun4x4club.org/xf/threads/ohv-permits-required-on-full-sized-vehicles.25153/page-2

What to bring:
  • Water for the whole weekend, plus a bit extra. STAY HYDRATED, have enough to put out a small fire.
  • Food for the whole weekend - stops in town are bonus stops, don't count on them... we may decide to blast through or eat somewhere less crowded. Bring plenty of snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Rain Gear
  • A little bit of fire wood for Saturday night
  • trash bag for your rig and some gloves
  • All of the rest of the stuff you take camping in Colorado

WHEN/WHERE:

HAM is 147.420. CB is channel 4

Saturday Aug 3rd
Sunday Aug 4th:
  • 08:30 - Wheels up - finish Kingston Peak, head over to Jenny Creek.
  • 09:00 - Passing through the intersection of Rollins Pass Road and East Portal Road. Will roll right through so if you want to grab the group there be waiting.
  • ~13:00 - Sunday afternoon finish up JC and head into Nederland for Pizza at Crosscut Pizzeria or BBQ at Roasted Toad.

Hello,

My name is Hunter Miller, and I am new to the forum and to off roading. My friend (DanTheMan) referred me to this forum to explore and learn more about off roading.

I am interested in attending the: August 3rd & 4th: Cleanup at Jenny Creek, Kingston, and Argentine - **Overnight Run**

i am wondering if this would be an appropriate event to use my (Stock 98' LC 100) and meet other members? If you would be willing to talk with me I would appreciate any information I could get thank you!

Welcome Hunter! Your stock 100 will be fine on Argentine and Kingston, provided you have decent all terrain or mud tires. I wouldn't take it up Jenny Creek unless you have sliders on it. There are a couple of spots where you can't avoid some good sized rocks. I ended up on my sliders with an otherwise stock 99 LC. I would hate to see you bugger up your truck on your first outing with Rising Sun! :)

I had a great time on the Camp Out last year. If I was not going to be at LCDC in Ouray this weekend I would be there with helpers. Have fun all!

Thank you! Daniel also suggested waiting until my cruiser is equipped with sliders as well to hit Jenny's. So I guess I may not make that one🤣 I am thinking about perhaps getting a new set of tires specific for this run. Do you think a set like BFG 285/75R16 would be right for factory ride height? Open to suggestions or corrections lol.

If I did this it serms like i may be able to join for Kingston and Argentine!

I have run that size BFG KO (All Terrains) with great results on my stock 100 Series trucks. Most folks steer away from Goodyear Duratracs on the big Land Cruisers due to sidewall failures. We've had a slew of them in the club. The BFGs will get you through.

Alright sounds like I should be able to hit a few runs!! Any recommendations for equipment to bring along for the camp, and the clean up?

I should be able to make Argentine and Kingston so however we want to meet up Ill make it work, I am able to to attend runs at those locations on Aug 3rd&4th plus doing an overnight camp sounds great!

Looking forward to hearing from you guys!

Just keep an eye here as it comes together @Freshlybakedcake I think it's most likely we'd run Jenny then Kingston then Argentine.

Generally we'll be picking up trash and looking for bigger issues so a shovel, gloves, and a few trash bags are a great place to start.

Camping should be standard stuff just think nothing too fancy, nothing left behind.

I'll shoot you a PM with a few other details and insights. Thanks for your enthusiasm!

Hey all gimme tonight to get detail sorted, baby got kicked outta daycare yesterday evening with the sickness. Went to the Dr. today and it looks like she'll be home all week with us. Sooo I'm on triple duty with that and work and RS.

If we did Argentine----> Kingston ----> Jenny Creek then we could maybe camp on JC or up on Kingston and Hunter could join for the start then peel off before JC. If we do the reverse then we'd need to figure out a rendezvous point for when we finish JC. That's not too tough I don't think.

Predetermining a camp spot for Saturday night I need to work on. I guess it depends on what direction we do the trip. Also thinking about folks that want to attempt a rendezvous later saturday (Beretta).

Fresh Baked do you have a HAM radio or a CB? Beretta you have HAM correct? Bill any comms? I forget.

Sorry to hear about your sick child hope everything is well. 😥

Daniel said I may be able to borrow his CB radio for this weekend run. So looks like I'm good there.
