Greetings:
Mile Hi Jeep Club Patrol 6 representatives wish to invite you to a visit to the Rollins Pass area, specifically to a hike/ drive upon the Boulder Wagon Road, Forest Service Road 501.a.
The proposed date is Thursday, August 24th, 2017, with a meeting time at Yankee Doodle Lake or Corona Pass parking lot (atop the Divide from the West side) at 10AM. Both sites will be open, to visit the road downhill first or uphill first.
This road originates at Yankee Doodle Lake intersecting Jennys Creek road and Moffat Pass roads in Boulder District and terminates high atop the Continental Divide on Corona Road in the Sulfur District.
For timeliness and ease of access on some members with physical limitations that would create a very slow hike, we of MHJC wish to make this a trip utilizing ours and your motorized vehicles of choice. This road is in great shape, with few locations requiring four wheel drive or high clearance, but to fully travel from end to end the two or three miles it is recommended. This will require some discussion with Boulder District USFS representatives to provide for such access. We are looking forward to those discussions and will let you know the outcome.
Our goal is to acquaint persons interested in this roadway with the current conditions and to assess from a practical perspective the roadways future. We believe there is merit in revisiting its value to the community and the actions of weathering and nature that has affected it since 1969.
Please join us for this tour of a great piece of transportation history that lies atop a great opportunity for the community to enjoy and experience our National Forests.

lots of emails and messages back and forth between several folks, (Kevin, myself, FS people) and it is still not very clear. At this point I can only assume what is happening and that is that the jeep club wants to get a bunch of people up there to put pressure on the FS to open it for the day. From what I can tell the email we got was also the first and only communication on the subject that the FS got also. Per the FS's suggestions (and in keeping with years past) our club will do what we always do up there next weekend which is to ensure routes are clean, maintained, signed appropriately, and that the gate is closed.

I id finally get a hold of somebody who I think is on the Jeep side that emailed me back and said this:

Marco,

Yes this is happening, no, if you read this closely we have asked to
attend with vehicle access, it most certainly has not been determined at
this time. The date and the access have been set aside for now until a
date is finalized and the powers that be consider wheeled access.

This sounds like it has been translated from another language similar to a scam email. I doubt any gates will be opened.
