That's awesome! The HAM was great on the 40's only run. Drew, Tim, myself and I think one other truck had HAM, since the leader, Mid-gunner and tail gunner had ham we were able to keep things moving smoothly and quickly (as possible in a 40)

I just passed my technician license yesterday. I'm not planning on doing anything more with ham beyond a handheld. Does anyone have a general or amateur extra license?

Congrats on your license. Hand held a are great but have their limitations...mostly in power/distance you can transmit/receive. I also thought I would only have a hand held but very quickly realized they are not enough if you're trying to meet up in the back country. You sometimes need to communicate further than a handheld is meant to go. I guess it depends on the hand held, but the China unit (you know the one) I have doesn't reach out very far...especially with the stock antenna.

Just passed my Technician. Can't wait to install my Icom ID-5100 Deluxe. Not sure on what Handheld I will get, looking at Icom ID-51A Plus2.
