Default New Tech Licensee

I just passed the test yesterday so I can hopefully be licensed by Cruise Moab. I have a BF HT. Anything else I should have for going off road?

Maybe one day! Not what I want to do before CM, just looking to stay in contact with the trail leader.

Congrats! You're going to love the clarity and range that Ham Radio brings.

You might think about buying the 12v charger for your HT.

congrats!

Reason the 2800 is a good recommendation is it fits in the factory radio slot of your 40 with no cutting or drilling, just the magic of gravity and friction keep it right in there. You do need to crank up the volume to hear it at highway speeds though, but you can still make it out if you have to.

and then you're not fumbling around for the $#!@! HT that just fell behind the brake pedal.

Oh I see, well what do you do for tunes if you don't have a radio and only a transceiver? And thanks everyone! I almost panicked thinking I didn't have time to pass the test, found one the next day it Littleton, was a cool experience. I took the general just for fun and got 19/35, more than I thought.

I really need to take the test but haven't had time to study. How hard are the questions for someone that knows nothing about HAM?

Just find a practice site online and go thru the questions several times. Honestly, the test is not that hard, just some electrical theory and a bit of technical operating stuff, mixed with HAM radio basics, like what is RACES, knowing not to retransmit anything (like a radio station playing music) except for the ISS transmissions, what ITU zones are, etc.

I use http://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/index.html. It is only $24 for a 2 year subscription. Otherwise, you could find a club doing classes for free or less cost.I like the ability to do it at my place, on my schedule which makes the $24 worth it.
